A man is arrested for assaulting Denmark’s Premier Frederiksen in central Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (Reuters) – Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Fredericksen walked off after an attack by a man on central Copenhagen Friday. She showed no signs of injury from the outside.

“Prime Minister Mette Fredericksen was beaten Friday evening in Kultorvet. A man was arrested in Copenhagen for beating a woman. “The Prime Minister is deeply shocked by this incident”, her office stated in a press release without providing any further details.

The police said that they were investigating an incident and had arrested a person on the social media platform X, but refused to provide any further details.

Soren Kjergaard told Reuters that the prime minister appeared to be a bit stressed after the attack.

Two days before the EU elections, Danes will be voting. Three weeks ago Slovakia’s prime minister Robert Fico suffered serious injuries in an attempted assassination.

Magnus Heunicke, Danish Minister of Environment, said on X that Mette was “naturally shocked” by the attack. It shakes us all who are close to Mette.
