Anwar Anwar: Government firm in not interfering with artistic creativity

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk seri Anwar Ibrahim is adamant that the government will not interfere with creative matters, ideas generation and local art values.

He also said that the government continues to support freedom of expression, including through the encouragement of artwork.

He also expressed his admiration for Syafiq Yosof’s direction and the themes of the film.

I was very impressed with the way this film dealt with issues such as corruption and abuse of power.

“I applaud the sincere efforts made by the filmmaker, who has embraced the Government’s firm stance on corruption and governance issues,” he wrote in a post to Facebook on Thursday (June 13, 2013).

Anwar also added that he was convinced by the quality of the film that the local film sector is capable of competing with international film industries.

In the same posting, the Prime minister also congratulated all the team members involved in making Sheriff Narko.

Anwar and his spouse Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had the chance to watch the film yesterday through a program organised by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission in Putrajaya.

There were also present the Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Home Minister Datuk seri Saifuddin Ismail, as well as cast members Zul Ariffin and Azira, Shafinaz and Aaron Aziz. Elizabeth Tan and Kamal Affandi Hashim, a crime analyst, Elizabeth Tan.
