Anwar Anwar: Human rights are important and aligned with the concept of Malaysia Madani

KUALA LUMPUR – The Prime Minister Datuk Sere Anwar Ibrahim ( pic ) has said that the importance of human right is in line what is advocated by the Malaysia Madani Concept.

Anwar wrote on Facebook that he brought this up during his meeting with Volker Turk (UN High Commissioner for Human Rights) in the Parliament on Tuesday (4 June).

He said that a country must have a vision based upon the values necessary for a harmonious, peaceful and prosperous society.

The Prime Minister stated that Volker and his Malaysian delegation were invited by the government.

He said that it was part and parcel of Malaysia’s efforts to promote cooperation with the UN in order to increase awareness of human rights so that all can benefit.

Anwar also said that he received a visit by Dr Thani Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of State of Foreign Trade for the United Arab Emirates.

The meeting, which was also attended by Investment, Trade and Industry minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, discussed bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and UAE, particularly in the economic area.

He said: “Alhamdulillah many collaborations were worked on before between agencies and businesses of both countries, and those planned for future,”

Anwar stated that a closer and more cohesive commitment will be explored by deeper economic cooperation. This includes the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, or Cepa (which is currently being negotiated).

Tengkuzafrul said in a press release that both countries had confirmed their commitment to signing the agreement this year.

As Malaysia’s free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council, it will pave the path to deeper economic cooperation. It is also expected to foster an environment that encourages increased trade and investments between Asean countries and the GCC in general.
