Anwar, Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Sungai Bakap will be announced next Monday.

PUTRAJAYA – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that the Pakatan Harapan nominee for the upcoming Sungai Bakap By-Election will be revealed next week.

The Prime Minister who is also the Pakatan Chairman said that they had shortlisted names and many qualified candidates to run for the seat.

He told reporters here at Masjid Sultan Abdul Samad (KLIA) on Friday (7 June), “God willing, we will be announcing it next week.”

Anwar, the PKR President, was asked about the exact date of the announcement. He said that Rafizi Ramli, the deputy president of the party, would make the necessary announcement.

Anwar added, “I’ve asked Rafizi for an announcement and to pick a date suitable next week.”

Anwar explained that “normally, we discuss it with the party leaders, but then it is passed on to the top leadership in the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Nasional within the unity government.”

Nor Zamri Latiff died on May 24, due to stomach inflammation, leaving the Sungai Bakap seat vacant.

Nor Zamri – the former Nibong Tebal Pas leader – contested against Pakatan Harapan’s Nurhidayah Rose in the August 2016 state elections. He won with a 1,563 majority after he secured 15,433 votes.
