Barisan recognizes that Sungai Bakap traditionally belongs to PKR

SERDANG – Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir acknowledges that Sungai Bakap in Penang was previously owned by PKR.

He said that the question as to who will represent Barisan in the state by-elections of Sungai Bakap is not relevant.

He said that Barisan will give its full backing to the candidate chosen by the Madani government for the elections.

He told reporters on Friday, June 7, after the launch the Universiti putra Malaysia (UPM), Food Security Blueprint.

The Election Commission (EC), on Thursday, June 6, set the July 6 date for the by-election. Nominations of candidates will take place on June 22, and early voting will be on July 2.

Seat fell vacant on May 24, after Nor Zamri Latiff (56), of PAS died from stomach inflammation.
