Conflict has caused a 12 percent drop in the labor force of Ukraine

KIEV, 6th June (Xinhua) – Since the beginning of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Ukraine’s workforce has decreased by 12 per cent to 15,2 million, according to a report cited on Wednesday by the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

According to a report by the Economy Ministry, and the Finance Ministry, the reduction in labor force is primarily due to military action and population decline caused by migration.

“Around half of the Ukrainian workforce is not active, they are not searching for work or working. Nearly three quarters of employers state that they have a shortage in personnel, according to the report.

According to the document Ukraine could increase its labor force through attracting more workers, and encouraging refugees who fled Ukraine because of the conflict to return home.

UN data suggests that 5,8 million Ukrainians have fled to Europe from the conflict.
