Dzulkefly: Three OTs are now operational at Serdang Heart Centre

PETALING JAYA – Three of the four operating theatres that were not working at Pusat Serdang Hospital Serdang, (Serdang Heart Centre), have now been operational since Wednesday (5th June), according to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmed.

“On the first morning, two adults as well as two children successfully underwent procedures.

In a post on Facebook on Friday (7 June), he wrote: “This was then followed by two adults and three children on the second-day.”

He added that “all issues relating to temperature and humidity” have been resolved.

He said that work was being done at the fourth nonfunctional OT. It is expected to be back up and running soon.

The Star reported that on May 14, maintenance issues had rendered the four OTs at Hospital Serdang inoperable, resulting to over 1,000 patients still waiting for surgery.

Four of the four OTs in the 18-month old cardiac facility had to close due to maintenance issues, namely air conditioning problems. This left only one OT functioning in its older building.

The heart centre will be opened in December 2020 and is one of the primary cardiology centers for the country. Referrals come from across the nation.
