Five teenagers arrested for bike theft in Johor

Police have arrested a group of teenagers for stealing a motorbike in broad daylight.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh stated that the five youths, ranging in age from 13 to 18, were arrested between 7pm and 10:30pm on June 5, in Kampung Bukit Batu & Felda Bukit Batu.

“We think that they stole the motorcycle from Jalan Sutera 1 Taman Mewah here in Layang-Layang at around 2.30pm Monday (3 June).

He said that they stole the bike to allow one of the suspects to use it in a Thursday (6 June) statement.

He said that four of the suspects are still attending school, while the fifth has completed secondary education.

ACP Bahrin said that the suspects had undergone a urine testing and were found to be drug-free.

He added that the two men did not have any prior criminal records. They were remanded in custody until 8 June for an investigation under Section 379A (of the Penal Code) for vehicle theft.

On conviction, the offence can be punished with either seven years in prison or a fine or both.

A 59-second clip of an alleged theft was circulated on social media earlier.

On the closed-circuit TV footage, you can see a group of motorcycle riders arriving on the scene.

One of them got out and looked at two motorcycles parked in front a row shops, before pushing the other bike away.
