Kota Kinabalu City Hall reiterates its intention to establish a Friendship City in Changsha, China

KOTA KINABALU – The City Hall has reiterated its intention to adopt a Friendship City Agreement with China’s Changsha City, in Hunan Province, for the development of economics and social exchanges.

Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah stated that the state government had given its approval to this proposal. However, it was not made official.

He said that the proposal for a Friendship City with Changsha would be beneficial to both parties, in terms of economic development, sustainable city development, climate change management and tourism, as well as cultural exchanges, skills sharing, management sharing, and skill-sharing.

On Tuesday, June 11, he received a courtesy visit from a Chinese delegation representing the People’s Government in Changsha City.

Lu Xingying is the deputy secretary-general of Changsha Municipal Government. He has said that both cities can work together in order to achieve high-impact benefits.

He explained that Changsha City was known for its tourism, cultural heritage and modern machinery.

Since June 10, the Changsha delegation is in Sabah on a three-day working visit. They have visited many places, including Sekolah Menengah All Saints (SM), Kota Kinabalu, and Darau Wetland eco Tourism.

City Hall representatives made a courtesy visit to Changsha Municipal People’s Government Deputy Mayor Gao Wenqi on May 12, last year, as part of a pre-discussion about this Friendship City proposition.
