Nanta: There will be no lane closures between June 12 and 19.

PUTRAJAYA – The Works Ministry has, via the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), issued an order to prohibit lane closures from 12-19 June for maintenance works in conjunction with Aidiladha.

Only emergency works will be permitted during this period, according to Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Ministry has both long-term and shorter-term plans for addressing the problem of traffic congestion, whether it is during the holiday season or the school holidays, he said, after presenting the 300m slip road project from Jalan P15H up to Persiaran Timur to Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, Federal Territory, Dr Zaliha Musafa on Thursday (6 June).

Nanta stated that in addition to the prohibition of lane closings, highway concessionaires would also activate smart lanes on selected locations. This will ensure smooth traffic flow.

MHA will monitor the motorists’ advocacy of smart lanes, and the effectiveness in which the improvements are implemented.

Nanta stated that the project, which included the construction of an environmental conservation system and the upgrade of traffic lights at P15H, began on December 29, 2020 and was completed on 15 May this year.

The Covid-19 pandemic, and the fact that the site of the RM12.63mil project is located along the main utility route in Persiaran Timur (Putrajaya), are two of the biggest challenges.
