Nine people arrested in connection to the kidnapping of a businesswoman in Johor

Nine men have been arrested in three different states for the kidnapping and murder of a 30 year-old woman.

Johor Police Chief Comm M.Kumar said that the incident occurred at 3.13pm, on 16 May. Three men with machetes abducted the victim at her home.

The kidnappers demanded RM112,000 as ransom. The victim’s parents paid the ransom and the girl was unharmed released at Skudai bus station on the same date,” he said.

He said that from May 23 through May 25, a team of state police officers and Bukit Aman arrested nine suspects in various locations in Johor and Selangor.

Comm Kumar said that during the arrests the police found a sum believed to be connected to the ransom.

All suspects aged between 24 and 48 had criminal and drug histories. Six of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine in a urine test.

The suspects underwent an investigation for kidnapping in accordance with Section 3(1) Kidnapping Act, 1960.

The case was investigated also under Sections 383 and 424 of the Penal Code, which pertain to individuals dishonestly aiding in the release or any claim or demand.

Comm Kumar said that the investigation report for the case was submitted to the Deputy Prosecutor’s office on June 5th.
