Over 26,000 litres smuggled beers seized by Customs

Butterworth: Penang Customs seized 52 800 cans of beer from a container at North Port, Port Klang. They acted on information they received.

Roselan Ramli, the state director of Its, said that surveillance had been conducted for two weeks prior to the raid on May 17 at around 10.30am.

He said a total 26,400 litres beer worth RM216.480 and unpaid duty amounting to RM785,410.56 had been seized.

He said that the investigation is under Customs Act 1967 as well as Excise Act.

Roselan said at a press briefing at the Bagan Jermal state customs enforcement store on Thursday (6 June) that the items had been declared as office furnishings in the Bill of Lading and Import Manifesto.
