Pahang Royals extend condolences towards the families of victims in the Rompin tour bus accident

KUANTAN – The Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Aziz have sent their deepest condolences on behalf of the families who lost loved ones in an accident involving a bus and a trailer that occurred on Jalan Kuantan-Segamat, near the Bahau Junction in Rompin, on Sunday.

Their Majesties expressed their grief and sorrow, and hoped all family members will remain strong and patient in the face of this ordeal.

They expressed their gratitude for the 36 members, who were teachers from Sekolah Kebangsaan Jeram in Melaka. They prayed that they would recover quickly.

Their Majesties have urged the Federal Government, in this regard to support the Pahang Government by assessing the situation immediately and taking immediate action to ensure that the safety of all road users is maintained at a high level.

Accidents must be avoided, especially during the festive season, school holidays and public holidays. All authorities must take swift action to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.

At the same, road users should drive with greater caution. Drivers must also be well-rested and in good health to avoid microsleep or losing control.

The Royal Malaysia Police has recorded 65 accidents and 79 deaths on this road in the last five years. Fatigue, drowsiness and negligence were identified as causes.

Their Majesties are of the opinion that by addressing these issues jointly with road users and authorities, they will not only improve comfort, but also increase the safety of drivers and passengers, thereby reducing accidents on the road.

A bus with 39 passengers and two drivers overturned at 1am on a slope. The trailer was carrying steel coils. The bus was carrying a group teachers and their children from a school to Terengganu.

Four people lost their lives in the tragedy: Hasnatul; Hamzah Ahmad (60), a school employee, and Hadi Asyraf, the second bus driver, aged 29. Dahlia Ahmed, 52, also succumbed to injuries. The Rompin District Police Chief DSP Nor Azman Yusof stated that the teacher passed away at 9.30pm, while being treated at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.
