Perak’s top cop: Probes are never deliberately delayed.

IPOH: Perak Police Chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri says that the police will never intentionally delay a report in investigation.

He did say, however, some investigations may take longer than others.

“We don’t simply investigate a report when we receive it. It must be investigated according to the correct process.

He told a news conference on Friday (7 June) after a shooting contest at the state range with journalists.

In some cases, it is necessary to obtain reports from the Fire and Rescue Department, or the Medical, Chemical, and Fire and Rescue Department.

We also don’t want to have a pile of investigation documents as we get reports daily.

He added, “If possible we would like to finish an investigation as quickly as possible so that we can file charges.”

A security firm manager asked police for clarification earlier this week regarding a report that he filed last year about an alleged criminal breach.

The manager said he hadn’t received any updates on the investigation officer since the report was lodged last March.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad responded later that the matter should be investigated according to the law.

Comm Yusri stated that commercial crimes cases can take a long time to complete.

Sometimes, the witnesses or documents we need are not available in the country or state.

He added, “I’ve instructed our investigators to provide regular updates and to cooperate with complainants about the status of their complaints.”
