Police actively probe into suspicious apps

PETALING JAYA – Police has received so far two reports involving the Dobemall mobile phone app and Dobevil, involving a loss of over half amillion ringgit.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will also be working with them to remove Dobemall which was still available at the time of press.

Director of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, said that two reports had been filed in Selangor, and Sarawak. The estimated losses were RM540.600.

Links between the two applications are currently being investigated. “We do not deny that both apps could be operated by the same group.”

Dobevil was highlighted in media reports before after Lai Pei Jing, a national mixed doubles player of badminton, posted on social media about how she fell victim to a scam.

When contacted by Comm Ramli, he said that the police were still investigating her case.

Comm Ramli stated that the police do not have any plans at this time to call Lai back to give additional statements.
