Police: Lorry driver who caused fatal accident received 100 traffic tickets

IPOH: A lorry driver accused of causing the death of a man aged over 60 in an accident in the Jalan Lahat-Simpang Pulai area here on Wednesday (5th June) has 100 traffic summonses in his record.

The 44-year old lorry driver had also committed three traffic offences in the past, according to ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad of Ipoh Police.

He said that preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the lorry knocked the senior citizen into his vehicle while reversing, unaware that the victim stood behind.

He said that the victim died immediately due to severe chest and abdominal injuries, while the driver of the lorry was not injured.

Abang Zainal Abidin stated that the case is being investigated under Section 41.1 of the Road Transport Act, 1987. The investigation was conducted for death caused by reckless or dangerous driving.

He said that police were appealing to witnesses to call the investigating officer Insp. Muhammad Syafiq at the number 013-6713177, or to the nearest station of police to help with the investigation.
