Police record statement of Tourism Minister, other witnesses to be questioned

PUTRAJAYA – The police has recorded the statement made by Tourism, Arts, and Culture minister Datuk Seri Ting King Sing regarding the hoax bomb at the Ministry.

Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz stated that police recorded the Minister’s statements to aid in the ongoing investigation.

When contacted by phone on Thursday (6 June), he stated: “We have recorded the minister’s statement today, but we will also call other witnesses during the investigation.”

A suspicious package sent on Wednesday (5th June) to the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry’s headquarters was confirmed as a fake “bomb”.

ACP Asmadi stated that the item appeared to be a bomb, but after thorough inspections it was determined to be a fake.

“It’s made of PVC pipe with a timer. It is a fake despite the realistic appearance.

The package was delivered at 11.19am by a messenger and arrived at the 14th floor around 2.45pm. He said that the bomb squad, as well as bomb-sniffing canines, were then called.

ACP Asmadi stated that police has recommended to the building management to implement standard operating procedures for the handling of packages for the minister.

Initial investigations have revealed that the package was sent from Sungai Buloh, a branch of a courier service.

“We also have video footage of a delivery by a male. We’re wondering why the person who delivered the package shook it.

“So far, we have not found any threatening letters,” he said.

ACP Asmadi urged anyone who has information to contact the nearest police station.
