Samsung discontinues support for Tizen-powered smartwatches

Samsung is ending support for smartwatches based on Tizen, according to an announcement posted in the Galaxy Store. The first phase will begin September 30, this year.

After the deadline, Samsung will stop selling content in the Galaxy Store, including apps and customizable watch faces, for the wearable OS.

The platform’s app-store will allow users to download content for free until May 31 2025. Content that has been purchased through the Galaxy Store will continue to be available on the “My Apps page” until September 30, 2025. After this date, Tizen service will cease.

After this date, both free and paid watch faces and apps can be used as long as the user does not delete them.

Samsung’s notice also mentions that this change affects all of its Tizen-based Watches, including the Active 1, Active 2, Gear 1, Watch 3, and Watch 3.

Wearables released since the Watch 4 will not be affected by Tizen.
