The warehouse containing 11,220 sex toys has been busted

Petaling Jaya: The Customs Department raided a warehouse near Shah Alam and seized thousands of toys, not intended for children.

During the raid code-named Ops Publicka on May 20, a total of 11,220 sex toy worth RM2.04mil was seized.

A 60-year old warehouse manager has been arrested and released after posting bail.

Norlela Ismail, assistant director general of Customs Central Zone, said that the items had been brought in using a false declaration on the Customs form. The consignment was listed in the Customs as toys for children.

She said yesterday that the items had been brought to a logistics warehouse to be stored and intended to sold in bulk by local sellers.

The toys were intended to be sold both online and in retail stores.

Investigating those who are involved in illegal acts is another departmental activity.

She said that investigations are underway to find the import agent or company involved.

The warehouse had been operating for at least three years and the illegal items were stored alongside other goods.

She said, “This is by far the largest haul of these items this year.”

In a separate matter, the Department conducted 40 raids in the Klang Valley to crackdown on undeclared cigarettes and alcohol.

During the raids, 16 people between 30 and 60 years old were arrested.

The total amount of confiscated alcohol was 3,506 litres and the number of cigarettes 355100. She added that the estimated value of their goods and unpaid duty was RM474,267.

Norlela stated that the total estimated for seizures under Ops Publika was RM5.3mil. This includes RM3.5mil of seized goods, and RM1.8mil unpaid taxes.
