Third and fourth day of Hari Raya Haji is the permitted time for prison visits

KUALA LUMPUR – Inmates in prisons, Moral Rehabilitation Centres (MRC), Special Rehabilitation Centres (SRC), Special Detention Centres (SDC) and Henry Gurney Schools will be allowed to receive family visits on the third day and fourth day of Hari Raya Adiladha.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Prison Department stated that priority will be given to muslim inmates. Visitors cannot bring food or drink into the prison, but can purchase refreshments from the canteen.

The statement read: “Families who opt for in-person visits are required to adhere to certain conditions including visiting hours between 8.15am and 4.15pm, and to produce their Visiting card and Identification Card.”

In the statement, it is also stated that the Department does not encourage visitors to give money to inmates as they are already provided with all the basic amenities.

Please obtain a PPT receipt as an acknowledgment of receipt if you wish to donate money to the prisoners for specific reasons, such as exam fees. “Please obtain a receipt of 28 as an acknowledgment of receiving,” the document added.

From June 19-21, video calls will be available for those who cannot visit in person.

The statement concludes, “For further information please contact the relevant institutions.”
