Three injured and one dead in George Town car-backhoe accident

GEORGETOWN – Three people were injured and a man was killed after the car they traveled in skidded off the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway and hit a backhoe early Sunday morning (June 9,) near Bukit Dumbbar.

According to a spokesman from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the 28-year old man died on the spot after being pinned in the passenger seat.

“The fire department had received an emergency call by 4.16am. A team was sent to the scene and discovered that a Proton Saga vehicle had skidded off the road and collided with a backhoe. The car was carrying four people.

The Ministry of Health said that two men suffered minor injuries, a woman was seriously injured and taken to hospital. Another man, who was sitting behind the front passenger’s seat, was pinned down and declared dead on the spot by the medical team.

The firemen used special equipment to extricate the victim’s corpse within 15 minutes. It was then sent to Penang Hospital where a postmortem would be performed.
