Tuaran floods force evacuation of villagers

KOTA KINABALU – On Monday night (June 3), 12 people were forced to leave their homes in Kampung Perumahan Tanjung on Jalan Istana Ayam Tua, Tuaran due to the continuous rain.

Mohd Mohd Amran, Senior Assistant Fire Comm at the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, said that seven men and five woman are seeking shelter in their relatives’ houses.

After receiving a distress signal at 9.44pm, a team of eleven men led by Mohamad nor Amit was sent to the scene.

Six minutes later, the team reached the site, which was only two kilometres from the Tuaran Fire Station.

He said that as the water level rose, 12 people had to be evacuated from their homes and temporarily stayed at the relatives’ houses. The operation concluded at 10.30pm.

No casualties have been reported.
