Two men claim they were charged with cheating a woman of her ‘Datuk title’

MELAKA: In the Sessions Court, two men are accused of soliciting a bribe of RM47,000 to secure a title.

On Tuesday, June 4, Razizam Ali (42), a clerical employee in the government department, and Low Kia Seng (58), a contractor, both pleaded no contest before Sessions Judge Elesabet Pai Wan.

The charge sheet states that they all had a common intent to deceive Seet Xiang Lin (38), into thinking she was going to be the recipient of the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka award, which carries a title called “Datuk”.

Seet deposited RM47,000 into Low’s account between Jan 1, 2017, and Nov 30, 2018.

The charge was filed under Section 420 (cheating) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years as well as whipping if convicted.

Low was represented Mohamad kamarulzaman Jusoh, while Razizam was represented Azrul Zulkifli Stork.

The court awarded Low bail of RM30,000 and one surety, while Razizam was granted RM15,000 with no surety.

The MACC also instructed both accused to come to this office once a week until the proceedings were over.
