Unveiling of the China-Hungary Joint Research Center in Budapest

BUDAPEST (Xinhua), June 10 – Representatives of Hungary and China inaugurated the China-Hungary Joint Research Centre for Exchanges and Mutual Learning between Civilizations on Monday.

The center was founded by Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary and Renmin University in China. Imre Hamar highlighted the importance in a speech made by Laszlo Bohy, rector at ELTE.

The vice-rector stated that the center “expresses our work in higher education institutions.” He added, “We wish to contribute greatly to the futures of cultures, societies and civilizations.”

Hamar spoke about the history and growth of the Chinese Studies Department, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last November.

The Chinese ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao announced that the two universities would join forces in order to promote mutual learning and exchanges between Asian and European cultures, to promote friendly cooperation between China, Hungary and to contribute to the deepening of cultural and academic relations between China, Central and Eastern European nations.

Lin Shangli said, the president of Renmin University of China. Renmin University, with the support of the ELTE research center, will work closely with ELTE to promote academic exchanges in China and Hungary.
