UTM is the first university in Malaysia to enter the Malaysia Book of Records as having broadcast a lecture for the longest time without interruption

JOHOR BARRU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s (UTM) longest-ever non-stop broadcast of a mechanical engineer lecture has been entered into the Malaysia Book of Records.

The dean of mechanical engineering at the university, Assoc Prof. Dr. Zaini Ahmed, said that a record was broken around 9am on June 5 after 24 hours of non-stop lectures by 60 lecturers.

The lecture began at 9am Tuesday (4 June) and continued continuously until 9am this morning.

“The lecture was broadcast live online and attracted viewers from Malaysia as well as around the world,” he stated during a press briefing after receiving the certificate by the MBOR.

He also noted that, in addition to the few students who were present physically, at least 1000 individuals tuned into the broadcast from countries such as the United States of America, Germany, Egypt and Indonesia.

“Even in the early morning hours, we had an audience online, because they were located in different time zones.

He added, “It was also an opportunity for us to showcase the breadth and depth of our faculty’s knowledge and our capability to deliver flexible and hybrid lectures.”
